Leaf Detective

Age: 3–8 • Time: 10–20 min • Materials: paper, pencil/crayon, tape (optional)
Steps:

  1. Find 3 different leaves (on the ground—no picking living ones).
  2. Trace or rub each leaf on paper (hold leaf under paper, color gently).
  3. Compare: edges smooth or jagged? Big veins or tiny?
  4. Sort your leaves by size, shape, or “frog-friend vibes.”

  5. Parent tip: Name one attribute at a time (edge, veins, color).

  6. Extend (Butterfly 7–8): Sketch labels (margin/vein/stem) or try a simple ID with a kid field guide.
