Ferdi's Pond, an interactive club for children where they learn all about insects from Ferdi the Frog

Ferdi’s Pond Philosophy

A message about connection, legacy, and the living Earth

Ferdi’s Pond was built on a simple but powerful truth.
Earth is alive, and everything on her is connected. Every creature, large or small, every drop of water and grain of soil, every living being plays a role in the great web that supports us all.

Children often sense this instinctively.
They feel compassion for worms on sidewalks.
They talk to the wind.
They worry about trees being cut down.

But the world doesn’t always tell them this sensitivity is a strength.
This philosophy does.

The Rain That Dinosaurs Drank

Everything transforms, nothing disappears.
The rain that falls on mountaintops once flowed through ancient rivers that dinosaurs drank from. The Earth is a cycle of memory and renewal, a place where life continues by changing shape.

This same principle applies to us.
We carry pieces of those who came before us, and long after we’re gone, pieces of us will continue through those who come next.

Ferdi’s Pond exists to honor that continuity.
To teach children that caring for the world is really caring for themselves.

Compassion Is Wisdom

If a child feels tenderness toward something smaller than them, or something strange or different, that is not a quirk, it is an inner truth rising to the surface.

Compassion is a sign that they understand — without being taught — that every life is valuable.
Every creature has a place.
Everything belongs.

Ferdi, Fiona, Silas, Bartholomew, Sunni Day, and all their friends were created to help children trust this knowing. Through story, play, and learning, the characters gently remind them that kindness is power and connection is real.

The Legacy We Leave

One day, a grandchild or great-grandchild of mine may discover these stories. They may never meet me, but if they read the words on this page, I hope something inside them recognizes itself.

I hope they say,
“Oh… that’s who she was. That explains why I feel the way I do.”
And I hope they learn something new.
“I never thought of it like that.”

Because the truth is simple.
Love doesn’t vanish.
It travels, it multiplies, it transforms, just like rainwater.

And if a child discovers kindness, wonder, and a sense of purpose through Ferdi’s Pond, then my work has lived beyond me in the most beautiful way.

The following is a letter that I’ve written to my future grandchildren, and their children, and theirs.  Maybe, someday, one of them will read it.

My dear child,

If you’re reading this, then you and I are meeting across time, but the truth is we have always been connected. You may not know much about me, yet there is a part of you that already carries the same spark that lived in me. Maybe you’ve felt it when you cared about something small, or when your heart softened toward a creature others overlook. Maybe you wondered why you felt that way.

Here is the reason.

Earth is alive. She breathes in ways we don’t always see, and everything on her is part of a single, shimmering web of connection. Every worm, every frog, every mountain goat, every raindrop on a leaf plays a role in holding life together, including your own. You are not separate from this, you’re woven into it.

If you ever felt compassion for something tiny or strange or different, that isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom. It’s your inner knowing that everything is valuable and everything belongs.

The rain falling on the highest peaks once flowed through ancient rivers dinosaurs drank from. Nothing disappears, it transforms.
Life continues by changing shape.
And the same is true for us.

If you ever wonder whether a part of me is still here, the answer is yes. You carry pieces of my story, just as I carried pieces of those who came before me. That connection is real, and it’s why I want you to care for the world around you. When we protect the Earth, we protect all the transformations still waiting to happen.

You are here to discover who you are, to share your gifts in your own way, whether through art, music, engineering, storytelling, or something entirely new. If Ferdi or any of the characters speak to you, let their wisdom walk with you. They were created to help you remember what you already know.

Live with love, for yourself and for every living thing that calls this planet home.
Love doesn’t vanish, it travels.
It ripples.
It becomes part of hearts you may never meet.

Just like this message has reached you.

Always yours,
Grandma

The Purpose of Ferdi’s Pond

To raise children who feel connected rather than separate.
To encourage learning through wonder rather than pressure.
To give families a place where stories teach science and kindness at the same time.
To plant seeds that will grow long after we’re gone.

Ferdi’s Pond isn’t just an educational site.
It’s a philosophy.
A worldview.
A legacy of connection.

With love,

Misti
